A reference page with alot of information on the lowbrow style of surrealism. An up and coming style that originated in Los Angeles. Now, Lowbrow art is found everywhere and is taking over several other types and creating it's own following. Pop surrealism is another typical name but the underground artists prefer to stay away from any reference to popular culture. Many of the artists use mixed media and create artwork with almost random objects forming scenes. The actual definiton of lowbrow art is more like a mix of haphazard unmatching pieces with a flare of urban culture, anarchy, and a good bit of not wanting to be a part of the mass culture. |
